Air Purifiers for Dust

Quiet, ioniser-free HEPA purifiers that capture the fine airborne dust you actually breathe, the light particles that stay floating long after the heavy stuff has settled. No purifier replaces a vacuum, but the right one keeps the air clearer and surfaces gathering dust more slowly.

  • No ioniser, no extra surface dust
  • Runs quietly all day
  • Christchurch support
  • Best value

Dust control works best when a purifier runs continuously, so it can keep pulling particles out of the air. The Sqair sits at 23 dB on low and the SA600 at just 16 dB, quiet enough to leave on day and night.

Dust gathers fastest in the rooms you live in most. Tell us where it'll run and how big the space is, and we'll point you to the right unit. No quiz, no email.

Sizes are matched to keep around three air changes an hour at a comfortable noise level for each setting. Bedrooms stay under 30 dB for sleep; living areas can run louder by day for extra airflow.

Even bigger, or a large quiet bedroom?

The Blast range carries the same HEPA and high-CADR approach into the largest rooms, useful for open-plan spaces that get dusty fast. The Blast Mk II also runs at just 29 dB on low, the quietest big unit we make for a large bedroom.

How HEPA purifiers help with dust

Dust isn't one thing. It's a mix of skin cells, fibres, soil and more, and the part you can see is the heavier stuff that settles quickly onto shelves, floors and the TV. A purifier doesn't vacuum or wipe, so it won't make settled dust disappear.

What it does catch is the fine, light dust (the PM2.5 fraction) that stays floating in the air for hours. That's the part you breathe, and a HEPA filter holds onto it very well. How much of the room it reaches comes down to airflow, measured as CADR. Higher CADR means more air through the filter, so more dust is caught before it settles.

Run continuously, and bumped to a higher speed while you vacuum or clean, a good purifier won't end dusting, but most people find surfaces gather dust more slowly and the air feels clearer.

A purifier can help with

  • Fine airborne dust and PM2.5, the part that stays floating and gets breathed in
  • Slowing how quickly shelves and surfaces gather dust
  • Catching what gets kicked up when you vacuum, if you run it on high
  • Making a room feel and smell fresher day to day

It won't

  • Remove dust already settled on shelves, floors or furniture
  • Replace vacuuming and wiping down. It's a layer alongside cleaning
  • Stop dust being made by open windows, pets, shedding fabrics or renovations

Why ionisers can mean more dust, not less

Plenty of purifiers add an ioniser, sometimes badged as "plasma" or "negative ion". On a sensor reading it can look like the air clears faster. The catch is what's actually happening.

Ionisers don't capture dust. They charge particles so they clump together and settle, which often means more dust landing on your floors, walls and furniture rather than less. Some ionising tech also produces ozone, a respiratory irritant. For dust, that's the opposite of what you want.

HEPA filtration physically captures and holds the dust, instead of dropping it on your surfaces.

High CADR to cycle the room's air several times an hour.

Every unit we sell is pure HEPA and carbon: no ioniser, no ozone. More on that in our piece on ionisers and why we don't use them.

What Kiwi homes tackling dust say

Great product all-round

We bought this primarily to combat dustiness and lingering cooking smells, as we have an open-plan kitchen and living area. The Sqair does just that, and keeps the room feeling and smelling fresher. Surprisingly effective for its size and a great price.

Excellent filter

I no longer see fibres and dust floating around my lounge after folding washing. Simple but it really works, way better than our previous Dyson air purifier. I'm literally about to order another one for our bedroom.

A game-changer for my old farmhouse

I live in an older rural home, so air quality has always been a challenge, with lots of dust, damp and closed-up spaces. Since setting up the SA600 I've genuinely noticed a difference. The air feels lighter and cleaner, and it runs so quietly I forget it's on.

This unit slaps

Sturdy, well designed and energy efficient, especially on the lower modes. The two large fans move a considerable amount of air while staying very quiet, and the large true carbon filters work much better than the typical cylinder designs. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

Dust and air purifier FAQs

Can an air purifier actually get rid of dust?
It can capture the dust that reaches it, which is the fine, light dust floating in the air. That part works very well. What it can't do is remove dust that has already settled on shelves, floors and furniture, since heavier particles fall before they reach the filter. Run continuously, most people find it won't end dusting but it does slow how quickly surfaces get dusty and keeps the air clearer.
Why do I still see dust with a purifier running?
Most visible dust is the heavier material that settles quickly onto surfaces. A purifier is most effective on the fine, airborne dust that stays suspended and gets breathed in. The two are different, so you'll still need to vacuum and wipe down, the purifier just handles what's floating.
Do your purifiers use ionisers?
No. Ionisers charge particles so they settle onto surfaces, which can actually leave more dust on your furniture, and some produce ozone, a respiratory irritant. Every unit we sell is pure HEPA and carbon, which captures and holds the dust instead of dropping it around the room.
Will a bigger purifier help with dust?
Often, yes. A higher CADR moves more air through the filter, so more airborne dust is caught before it settles. Larger units can also run at lower, quieter speeds while still being effective, which matters when you want it running all day. A good trick is to vacuum first, then run the purifier on a higher speed to grab what gets kicked into the air.
How much is delivery and how long does it take?
Delivery is free across New Zealand on orders over $100. Orders ship from Christchurch on weekdays and usually arrive within 1 to 2 business days, with rural addresses adding another 1 to 2 days. The Blast and Blast Mini can take an extra 2 to 3 days. You'll get tracking as soon as your order is dispatched.
What if I need help or something goes wrong?
You can reach our Christchurch team anytime. We offer quick, friendly support and a 1 year NZ warranty on every purifier, handled directly with no overseas wait times.
